Also known as Fanfan, Ganevat’s wines have become iconic, and symbol of an entire generation of young natural winemakers. His family line of vignerons and Estate date back to the 17th century. After years working in Burgundy, Jean-François returned back to his roots in Jura where, in 1998, took over his family’s Estate. That same year, he converted the vineyards to organic viticulture, and then to biodynamics in 2006.
Based in Rotalier, in the Jura region, the Estate is only 8.5 hectares and the yields are low. Jean-François practices single-parcel selection ( 1 soil type, 1 grape variety = one cuvée). As a result, the estate gives birth to 40+ different, extraordinary, and very rare cuvées every year.
We put together a super special line-up, all wines from the Domaine (not the Négoce he has with his sister Anne). These wines are extremely rare, get yourself one of the boxes till we have it.
Antide 2016, Savagnin ouillé
Savagnin from vines planted in 1933 on grey marl off the Chalasses vineyard site. The name refers to the youngest son of Jean-François, Antide - great depth and a dazzling persistence with notes of roasted nuts and zest of lemon.
Chamois du Paradis 2016, Chardonnay
Old vines Chardonnay planted in 1949 in the same terroir as the Grandes Teppes, rich in limestone gravels. It spends 4 years in demi-muids before bottling.
Les Survivants 2017, Chardonnay
In 2017 Jura was hit by a terrible frost and winemakers struggled to make any wine. This cuvée was made from the “survivors” grapes of each vineyard and aged for 3 years in 600litre oak barrels.
Grandes Teppes 2019, Pinot Noir
From Pinot Noir planted in 2006 on a terroir made up of red marl and whose average age is 14 years. The intra-cellular fermentation is followed by a gentle maceration. The wine is aged for 1 year in tronconic vats.
Julien en Billat 2019, Pinot Noir
Planted on a terroir of schist, white and grey marls, this cuvée is a blend made exceptionally from two usually separate cuvées -“Cuvée Julien" and "Pinot Noir en Billat”.
Plein Sud 2019, Trousseau
The grapes are cultivated on a terroir of white marl, scree and gravel. The vines, whose age varies between 15 and 60 years, are planted on a steep slope, facing south. The intra-cellular fermentation is followed by a gentle maceration. The wine is aged for 1 year in tronconic vats.
